These measures are intended to uphold ethical standards in social science research.

Nuevo Derecho does not charge authors for the editorial process or for publication.

The journal maintains an open and permanent call for submissions on general topics but may also issue special themed calls (Dossiers) focused on specific topics or areas of study.

STRUCTURE AND FORMATTING

Title
The title must be brief, affirmative, and not exceed 15 words. It may include a subtitle if necessary. It should clearly reflect the topic and main conclusion, be presented in Spanish and English, and include a footnote (marked with an asterisk) if clarification is needed. The title should also indicate whether the article derives from a research project, thesis, or essay, and include the project name, institution, and code, where applicable.

Author Information
Author details must be listed as follows: academic degree, university of graduation, institutional affiliation and research group, ORCID, institutional email, and — for Colombian authors — the link to their CvLAC profile.
Author names should appear in the desired order of publication.

All authors must have an active and updated ORCID profile consistent with the information included in the manuscript.
Colombian authors must also be registered in CvLAC, with an active institutional affiliation consistent with both their ORCID and the information in the author footnote.

Failure to meet these conditions will constitute grounds for immediate editorial rejection, without requiring prior notification or additional requests from the Editor or Editorial Committee.

At least one of the authors must hold a Master’s degree at the time of submission.

Abstract and Keywords
Each article must include an analytical abstract in Spanish and English (200–250 words) followed by 4–6 keywords, also translated. Keywords should reflect the core themes of the study, using appropriate academic thesauri.

Introduction
The introduction should briefly contextualize the problem, present relevant background, and clearly state the objective(s) of the study. It should not include figures or tables unless essential to comprehension.

Methodology
When applicable, describe the study design, data collection methods, and population characteristics (e.g., sex, age). For experimental or human-subject research, authors must declare adherence to ethical standards (e.g., the Declaration of Helsinki) and indicate institutional ethics approval and informed consent where applicable.

Results
Present findings in a logical sequence, supported by tables or figures where relevant, emphasizing only the most significant data.

Conclusions
Summarize the key contributions and implications of the study, avoiding repetition of previous sections. Relate conclusions to study objectives and, where appropriate, include recommendations.

References
References must follow the APA Style and include only sources cited in the text. Entries should be alphabetized by author and formatted with double spacing.

Figures and Tables
Figures and tables must appear immediately after their first mention in the text, never at the end. They must be sequentially numbered (e.g., Figure 1, Table 1), centered, titled below, and submitted with high resolution; tables must be editable. If adapted or reproduced, the source must be cited both in-text and below the figure or table.

ETHICAL PUBLICATION STANDARDS

Declaration and Submission

Articles submitted for publication must be original works. Together with the submission of the manuscript through the OJS platform, authors must attach a submission and copyright transfer letter declaring the originality and authorship of the text. This statement confirms that the article has not been previously published and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal or medium.

By signing this letter, the authors grant Nuevo Derecho the right to reproduce, publish, edit, communicate, and publicly disseminate their article and related materials in any form or medium, as well as to distribute the necessary number of copies and make them publicly available, both nationally and internationally, through electronic means. These rights are granted solely for scientific, cultural, and dissemination purposes and without profit motives.

It is essential that the study from which the manuscript derives includes informed consent for all participants and the approval of the institutional ethics committee. This must be clearly indicated in the methodology section, as well as appropriate references when using data or instruments developed by other authors.

The submission and copyright transfer letter, which declares the originality and authorship of the text, must be submitted using the official format established by the journal. All authors must have read and agreed with the content of this document, and it must bear the signatures of all contributing authors.

Each author is responsible for the content of the manuscript and for their actual participation in the preparation of the article.

Authorship

Nuevo Derecho, in line with the four criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), adopts the following definition of authorship for a scientific article:

  1. Making substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.

  2. Drafting the article or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Approving the final version to be published.

  4. Taking responsibility for all aspects of the work, ensuring that any questions related to the accuracy or integrity of the text are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Only those who meet all four criteria may be listed as authors. This implies that all co-authors share collective responsibility for the entire work and must have mutual trust in each other’s contributions.

Individuals who contribute to the article but do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors. Instead, they must be acknowledged in a footnote indicating their name and specific contribution to the research or preparation of the manuscript.

It is the collective responsibility of the authors, not the journal, to ensure that everyone listed as an author meets the authorship criteria. The order of authorship must be mutually agreed upon by all contributors, based on the significance of each contribution.

If a change in authorship (addition or removal) is requested after submission or publication, the journal will require a signed statement of agreement from all listed authors, including the author being added or removed.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a broad phenomenon that may include the absence of bibliographic references, the use of others’ ideas—published or unpublished—without consent, or the presentation of a full document under different authorship or in another language.

To prevent plagiarism, all sources must be properly cited in APA format. When large portions of another author’s written material or illustrations are used, prior authorization is required. Any procedures or instruments used in the research that were developed by others must be explicitly cited in the article.

Retraction

Retractions may occur due to voluntary or involuntary errors by the authors; however, corrective actions are the same in both cases. Authors have the right to voluntarily retract part or all of their manuscripts at any time. The retraction notice must be explicit and transparent.

A retraction does not exempt authors from possible disciplinary or legal consequences arising from errors in their published articles.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must avoid any actions that could constitute a conflict of interest in relation to the publication or the information provided.

Copyright Notice

Authors must declare that their article is an original work that has not been fully or partially published in any print or electronic medium, has not been simultaneously submitted to another publication, and is not currently under review elsewhere. The authors acknowledge that the statements expressed in the manuscript are their sole responsibility.

All data and references to previously published material must be properly identified and credited in bibliographic notes and citations. Where necessary, the authors must hold the required permissions from copyright holders. In the event of any dispute or claim concerning intellectual property rights, the authors assume full responsibility, thereby releasing Nuevo Derecho from any liability.

If the article is accepted for publication, the authors transfer reproduction rights to Nuevo Derecho for the purposes of publication, electronic distribution, and inclusion in national or international indexing databases and directories in Open Access, under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA). Under this license, authors retain their copyright and allow others to copy and distribute their work, provided proper authorship is credited and the material is not used for commercial purposes.

Therefore, Nuevo Derecho does not retain reproduction or copyright ownership, and authors are free to share the final versions of their articles in institutional repositories, personal blogs, or other print or electronic media, provided that proper credit is given to the original source of publication (Nuevo Derecho).
